Summary

Exodus tells how the descendants of Jacob, enslaved in Egypt, cry out to God, who hears them and raises up Moses. Through ten plagues and the Passover, God shows his power over Pharaoh, and Israel crosses the Red Sea to freedom.

At Mount Sinai God gives the Ten Commandments and the covenant law, and instructs Israel to build the tabernacle so that he may dwell among them. Even after the people's rebellion with the golden calf, God renews the covenant and his glory fills the tabernacle.
