Summary
3 John is a personal letter to Gaius, whom the elder commends for walking in the truth and showing hospitality to travelling teachers of the gospel.
The elder contrasts Gaius with Diotrephes, who loved to be first and refused to welcome these believers, and he commends Demetrius as a good example. "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."
