Summary

Joshua continues the story after Moses' death. God commands Joshua to be strong and courageous, and Israel crosses the Jordan, conquers Jericho and takes the land in a series of campaigns.

The land is then divided among the tribes, fulfilling the promise made to Abraham. In his farewell address, Joshua reminds Israel that not one of God's promises has failed and calls them to serve the Lord alone: "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

Key Verses

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.โ€

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.โ€
