Summary
Deuteronomy records Moses' farewell speeches to Israel on the edge of the promised land. He reviews God's faithfulness in the wilderness and restates the law for a generation that did not stand at Sinai.
At its heart is the call to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Moses sets before the people blessing and curse, life and death, and urges them to choose life. The book ends with the commissioning of Joshua and the death of Moses.
