Summary
Joel describes a devastating locust plague and calls the people to mourn, fast and return to the Lord, who is "gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love."
The plague becomes a picture of the coming day of the Lord. God promises to restore what the locusts have eaten and to pour out his Spirit on all people — a promise Peter announced as fulfilled at Pentecost. The book ends with judgment on the nations and blessing for God's people.
